If your flight is cancelled or delayed for more than 5 hours, you are entitled to:
- A refund of the airfare.

- Alternate transportation to your final destination under similar travel conditions.

- From 4 hours of waiting time and a flight distance of 3,500 km or more, you have the right to free drinks, food and communication services.
- In case of a next day departure, regardless of the flight distance, you have the right to an overnight stay in a hotel and reimbursement of transfer costs.
The delay time at the destination depends on the opening of the aircraft door. The touchdown of the aircraft on the runway is not relevant.
Requirements for flight cancellation compensation:
A few conditions must be met in order for you to be entitled to compensation from the airline. If you were not informed of the flight cancellation at least 14 days before departure, you are entitled to compensation. This applies under the following circumstances:
- Landing in the EU with an EU airline (airline is based in the EU) or taking off in the EU (regardless of the airline).
- Exceptional circumstances do not apply.
Exceptional circumstances:
If an extraordinary circumstance exists, the airline does not have to compensate you. This includes all unforeseeable situations that do not occur in the daily operations of an airline and are beyond the airline’s control. These events are to be distinguished from normal delays and operational procedures for transporting passengers. These extraordinary circumstances include:
- political uncertainty
- severe weather
- airport or airspace closures
- bird strikes
- unavoidable security risks
- other risks
